Home Communion

“And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

There are times in life when attending church becomes difficult. Illness, age, distance, caring responsibilities or reduced mobility can make it impossible to join us in person, even when we would dearly love to be there.

At St Michael and All Angels, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to remain connected to the worshipping life of the Church. If you are unable to attend Holy Communion in church, we would be delighted to bring Communion to you in your own home, care home or place of residence.

Home Communion is a simple and prayerful service, usually led by the priest or an authorised lay minister. It includes readings from Scripture, prayers and the sharing of Holy Communion. Although the setting is different, it remains the same sacrament celebrated in church week by week, connecting you with the wider Christian community and with Christ himself.

Many people find Home Communion brings comfort, encouragement and peace. It can be a reminder that, even when life changes and circumstances become more difficult, they remain a valued and loved member of the Church family.

You do not need to be facing a serious illness to receive Home Communion. It is available to anyone who is baptised and would normally receive Communion in church but is unable to attend regularly. Family members and carers are also welcome to join in the prayers if they wish.

Whether the need is short-term or ongoing, we are happy to discuss how we can help. A visit may involve Holy Communion, prayer, a friendly conversation, or simply an opportunity to share any concerns and receive spiritual support.

Being unable to attend church does not mean being forgotten. Those who receive Home Communion remain an important part of our parish community. We continue to pray for one another, share in the life of the Church, and support each other through times of joy and difficulty.
